Organizational Setting

The Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS). Among the five Sections, the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS) provides site operation technical and administrative services to the work of the IAEA’s laboratories. SLSS services include facilities, technical, engineering, property and transport management, and site security through its management of the Seibersdorf Protective Force (SPF). The Section has a diverse complement of 35 staff, including technicians, drivers, procurement assistants and IT support. Main Purpose

Under the guidance and overall supervision of the Head, Facilities Management and Engineering Unit, SLSS, the General Services Assistant and in close cooperation with other staff in SLSS assists with maintenance of premises and technical installations (indoor and outdoor) at the IAEA Laboratories in Seibersdorf in compliance with strict safety and security regulations. These premises and technical installations include diversified structures such as clean laboratories and nuclear materials laboratories with various controlled areas and clean rooms; fly and mosquito mass-rearing with specially air-conditioned compounds; technical workshops (plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, mechanics); conference and training facilities.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Work independently on a diverse array of technical support and maintenance tasks at the Seibersdorf Laboratories in compliance with safety and security measures according to established standards and procedures.

Assign work to contractors, such as gardeners, painters, construction services, carpenters etc, and verify completion of tasks, monitoring the work is executed as per specifications and applicable safety regulations and standards.

Accompany contractors to the job sites within the Laboratories and provides guidance as required.

Assist the SLSS Group for Receiving and Procurement with distribution and deliveries of received goods/supplies, ensures accuracy of delivery notes and reports on identified discrepancies.

Provide transportation services for delivery/pick up of agency equipment, materials and supplies, and locksmith services.

Assist with the coordination of cleaning, grounds keeping and other contractual support services for the Seibersdorf Laboratories on a day-to-day basis.

Assist with various tasks related to Waste Management and the handling of toxic materials.

Refill liquid nitrogen containers in specific laboratories as/if required.

Function as the SLSS Building and Infrastructure Group’s specialist for all works related to carpentry works, wood works, dry-walling and other related tasks.

Act as a backup for other members of the SLSS Building and Infrastructure Group and receives cross-training in all the SLSS Building and Infrastructure Groups responsibilities.

The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA’s Radiation Safety Regulations.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Completed secondary education or an apprenticeship and vocational schooling in building’s maintenance/management or construction, or related field?

A minimum of four years of hands-on experience in operating high powered machines such as bench saw, skill saw, bench planer and column drilling platform, etc.

Experience with carpentry work and drywalling.

Knowledge in the field of roof works and waterproofing of buildings desirable.

Advanced experience in upkeep and cleaning of laboratories and/or similar premises is an asset.

License for driving cars and forklifts is an asset.

Good health, physical fitness and strength to carry out strenuous work.

Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 48527 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks’ annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
