SHORT TERM FORECAST
TONIGHT: Mostly clear with some clouds moving in during the pre-dawn hours. Slightly cooler and less humid with dew points in the low 60s. Low: 65
TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late morning onward. High: 83
TOMORROW NIGHT: Cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Still humid with dew points will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. Low: 70
FORECAST SUMMARY
With a high of 94 on Wednesday and only in the low 80s Thursday, our second heatwave of the year has come to an end. Thanks to a cold front that passed through last night, we got some much needed rain and a temporary relief from the humidity for Thursday. But the humidity will crank back up with dew points into the 70s for this weekend. The Bermuda high directly to our east over the western Atlantic ocean will continue to transport humid tropical air from the south into our region. The cold front that moved through Wednesday has stalled out to the south and east becoming a stationary front. This will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms for eastern Pennsylvania on Friday. The heaviest rain for Friday will be around the I-95 corridor, where 1-2 inches of rain is expected. North and west of I-95 into the Lehigh Valley the rain is not expected to be as heavy with totals ranging from 0.5-1 inch. Because of these rainfall amounts forecasted, the Weather Prediction Center has issued a slight risk (Level 2 out of 4) for flash flooding around I-95 and south Jersey and a Marginal risk (Level 1 out of 4) points north and west. The front will gradually move away from us over the weekend leaving us with a dry weekend after Saturday morning. The humidity still does not come down however, and the temperatures will start to climb back up on Saturday. Sunday we’ll see highs back in the 90s with the beginning of our third heat wave. This heat wave is expected to be a little shorter than the last two, only lasting through Wednesday, a total of four days. But this means that highs will be in the 90s Sunday through Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday both have a small chance of seeing some scattered showers and thunderstorms. A new cold front will move through Wednesday with a higher chance of seeing scattered showers and thunders than earlier in the week. But just like the last two heatwaves, this cold front will be the end of the heatwave next week. The humidity should also finally start to drop below 60 on Thursday as well.
DETAILED FORECAST
Tonight
Mostly clear skies with some clouds building up towards the pre-dawn hours. A little cooler than it has been with lows in the upper 60s but still a little humid with dew points in the low to mid 60s.
Friday
A stationary front just to our east will bring us mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day on Friday. Some of the rain might be heavy at times, but the heaviest rain is expected to be south and east of the Lehigh Valley around the I-95 corridor. This will be the coolest day out of the next seven with highs in the low 80s. I will still feel humid, but not as oppressive like we felt earlier in the week with dew points in the mid to upper 60s.
Weekend
The rain moves out over the Saturday afternoon but an isolated shower or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out for the rest of the weekend. Highs will climb back up into the upper 80s on Saturday and low 90s on Sunday beginning heatwave #3 of the year.
Early Next Week
The next heat wave will last through Wednesday, so a little shorter than the previous two with a duration of four days compared to six. The humidity will still be there with dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s. Monday and Tuesday should be mostly dry, but a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoons. Then a cold front will move through on Wednesday ending the heatwave and increasing the rain chances slightly.
